The Salon at Synchronicity LA

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

Posted by Maxey Fish and Sea

Every two weeks we wrangle up poets, musicians, writers, artists, performers of all kinds and create a venue to share works of creativity. We call it the Salon. Here’s a taste. YOU should come and share or just watch or drink or chat or throw tomatoes.
Music compliments of beloved Synchronicity member, Amelie Julac.

Fellow Synchronicity LA brother Poet John Paul the Third performs his spoken word piece, “Dedication to Women Who Love Women.” When JP3 and I shared a room we’d improvise a little spoken word/slide guitar combination. Here we are collaborating at a recent Salon.

We so love the amazing women of and around Synchronicity LA.

Our neighbor Tin performs another hit of hers, Mr. Shoeshine.

MORE ABOUT THE SALON

A fortnightly forum for performers, writers, musicians, and artists to meet, share, network, socialize, inspire and be inspired!

The gathering will provide: 1) a space for us to have our work seen where we can receive comments and critiques if we so choose (after everyone shares), 2) a supportive community and the possibility to network/collaborate with other creators, and 3) an outside motivation to proceed with projects that may otherwise disappear into the ether!

Projects need not be finished; you can be at any point in the creative process, and the Salon may serve to help you find direction and/or as a regular check-in on progress. All art is welcome… acoustic music, spoken word, poetry, prose, dancing, clowning, stand-up comedy, weird performance-arty stuff, paintings, drawings, sculpture… whatever you want to share.

In open-mic fashion, there will be sign-up slots so that there’s a structure to it, and some sort of time limit so that everyone gets their turn. Afterwards, we can just hang out and make merry and magic! Feel free to bring wine, but don’t puke on the poetry.

We’re just starting this up, so the day may change, but it will be happening every other week on Westmoreland Blvd.

Flapper garb encouraged but not mandatory.

It’s Time to Start Posting

Hi,

I haven’t blogged much before, and I think I’m going to give it a try. I’d like to post images of design projects I’m working on, just to share my work with others and the joy I take in it. I might also post images I see of others’ work from time to time, because there are so many beautiful things to see and share in the visual landscape.

Here are some brochure cover layouts layouts I finished up yesterday while lounging with my computer on a table in the backyard. I’ll tell you at the end which the client picked.

My pick probably would have been #4, but, alas, the client chose #2. I think it was a good choice, though.  Now I’ll be moving on to inner layouts for that selection.

Also, here are two photos of myself I took while out in the yard…  I liked the lighting that Photobooth was getting, and let’s face it, this is an introductory post.

Introducing the Department of Efficiency

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

Dear World,
I am officially starting my blog.  Here are a few pieces that I have recently finished.

This blog will serve a few different purposes.  It will be a place for people to view art and music that I am working on.  I will also be examining other efficient human beings and seeing what tips they have for hard working Americans like us.  If you feel like you are efficient, or even if you just want to impart some wisdom my way, please leave a post or email me.  I am excited to learn, and I am excited that I am excited.  Keep your eyes peeled for the upcoming EP Dear Mr. Ford.  Thanks homies.

picture-11Remember a few posts ago when I couldn’t figure out who produced those beautiful pictures?

Well I’ve found it.

picture-21I remembered seeing some of his work with Marilyn Manson and that one model, you know, the one who looks like a redheaded doll?

lily-cole

Turns out her name is Lily Cole. I heard she likes punk.

Anyway, the photographer is Miles Aldridge, and you should seriously check out his stunning portfolio.

Along the way, I found some other bad ass work- mostly from google searching Vogue Italia photography.

They look and feel like they were shot in the 70’s. It’s sort of like discovering that old box of photos your mom had stashed in the crawlspace with old love letters and pictures of boys who were not your dad.

His name is Niel Krug, and I found him through some artsy site you might like.

They describe the photo series as “Beautiful, majestic and a little bit Choose Your Own Adventure or pulp novels come to life.” – Remember  those things? Dang.

Swine Flu…

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

Posted by msabicer

Last night, the hospital was on high alert. Working on the infectious disease unit I saw this coming, but the fever pitch of the SWINE FLU epidemic hit us hard. For the last week the ER has been packed with literally hundreds of people worried about the flu. Then yesterday it happened, a young patient came to our hospital with a “highly probable” case of swine flu.

The hospital spared no precaution, and the nurses had to be suited up with the same level of protection we use for surgical sterility- bonnets, goggles, respirator masks, gowns, and booties.  We’ve had epidemics come through before, and the infectious disease unit always takes the brunt of it. I’m sure that in the coming weeks we’ll be quarantined from the rest of the hospital .Lisa Solomon

It seems only natural then that overnight I had a creeping sore throat and today I have raging cold. But I’m sure that’s just what it is, a cold. Never the less, I can’t help but think that flu symptoms are mostly respiratory.

I really need to figure this out…. I have a compulsive problem with tearing through blogs and mining out beautiful imagery. Unfortunately, now that I want to share them with you, I don’t have the links or credits to go along with it.

picture-8

I stole these off of a photograpers website. I can’t seem to tract back my steps.

picture-7UGH, this is killing me.

picture-1If this looks familiar to you, please, let me know where I got this from.

I remember that the photographer had been featured in Vogue Italia, and thats about it.

Simply beautiful and haunting.
